Yes. Your payment is for your research participation - click here to learn more. You are not being paid for being a part of the program, but more than 3 absences from the program makes you ineligible for the research study and therefore ineligible for further payment.
You will received 5x $100 payments - totaling $500
You will also be paid a $55 travel stipend to attend program sessions.
Additional details will be provided after acceptance.

After participating in Project Insight, a select group of students will be eligible to serve on a local and national Youth Advisory Council for the Pediatric Pandemic Network (pedspandemicnetwork.org). This is still a work in progress and may not be ready by the time you finish Project Insight, but regardless we hope to find additional opportunities and resources for you after you complete the program.
That means you can be a voice advocating for change in your community and across the country!
Additionally, we hope a few of you will serve on an advisory council for Project Insight - helping us become a better program!
Lastly, we hope to connect all our students with a community parnter of interest!

For select participants, this will be a two-year time commitment. Therefore, we are looking for students who are able to commit to Project Insight this year and potentially next year.
We require students to have
internet access at home
an internet connected device to look up homework assignments
an internet connected device to bring to sessions
transportation to each session
can commit to attending all sessions, with no more than 3 absences allowed
has the bandwidth for the time commitment to the program
consents to research participation
Additionally, there are other things we consider when reviewing applications.
We will prioritize recruiting students who:
identify as Underrepresented in Medicine (UIM), LGBTQ+, and/or as persons with disabilities. (UIM is defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) as Black, Mexican American, Native American (American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian), and mainland Puerto Rican populations.)
Live in the District of Columbia (especially Wards 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8)
Live in select areas of Prince George's County
Will be the first person in their families to go to college.
Receive their primary care at Children’s National Hospital
Identify as having a disability
Identify as LGBTQIA+ or as being non cis-gender
Has taken or is currently enrolled in a college level course

This is a competitive application. Last year we had nearly 85 applications. We are currently only able to accept 20 students per year.

The application consists of a short form that asks background information such as your name, age, school, parent/guardian information, and other things.
It also consists of several written essay responses.
Expect to hear a decision regarding acceptance, waitlisting, and rejection on 11/22/24.
